About the Role


451 Research is looking for a Senior Analyst, Data Management to become an integral member of our data, analytics and AI coverage team, which provides insights for our clients on topics such as databases, data management, data science and analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Working in conjunction with the cloud channel, the security channel, the IoT channel, and others, our data, analytics and AI team writes about the innovative technology vendors and service providers in this sector, as well as industry trends and potential future developments.

Our focus for this role is an individual who can add to our growing bench of analyst expertise in data, analytics and AI by writing research reports, speaking at customer and public events, delivering webinars, strategy days and custom consulting projects, and helping build depth in data management.

Person Profile

We are looking to recruit a Senior Analyst with a good mix of written and interpersonal skills. Top priority is the ability to write clearly and succinctly, but also important is the ability to present with confidence to a group of industry peers. As a Senior/Principal Analyst, you will be expected to work independently within a geographically dispersed, global team, focusing on specific areas of data management research. Daily activity will involve briefings, client inquiries, report production, and advisory work. As an expert in your field, you will also be asked to attend industry events and provide media commentary in order to build influence for 451 Research in this area.

Required Experience

It is likely that the successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in one or more of the following roles:

  • Market intelligence or competitive intelligence role with a technology vendor supplying the IT services sector
  • Strategy, marketing or business development role with a service provider in the technology sector
  • Vertical market or associated technology area research role with a commercial analyst firm

In addition, the successful candidate will have industry knowledge of one or more topics in following categories:

  • Data integration
  • Data governance
  • Data catalogs
  • Master data management
  • Data quality
  • Metadata management
  • Data preparation
  • Data lake management
  • Streaming data integration

Required Skills

The role requires well-developed communication skills, in particular:


  • The ability to write detailed, structured reports in both short- and long-form
  • Good verbal articulation with the ability to describe complex ideas in a straightforward way
  • The ability to present to small to medium-sized audiences of senior IT professionals
  • Awareness of media influence and how to effectively talk with the IT press
 
Applicants must possess specific professional skills:

  • Independently manage their own time with minimal supervision
  • Work effectively as part of a diverse, virtual team using appropriate tools to maintain regular communication
  • Be a self-starter
  • Multi-tasking capability – able to work on two or more projects simultaneously 

Desired Attributes

  • Evidence of published work in the form of research papers, blogs, articles, etc.
  • Experience in identifying new business opportunities and commercial growth prospects with clients
  • Ability to work with complex data sets, drawing conclusions and building a story from quantitative results

Other Information

  • Some domestic and international travel is required
  • Office location is flexible within North America
