About the Role

451 Research’s Information Security research channel provides insights for our clients on topics such as enterprise security architecture, security technologies for protection, detection, and analysis of security incidents, data security, identity and access management, application security, security operations, security management, vulnerability and risk management, cloud security, security for modern DevOps environments, and others. Working in conjunction with the critical infrastructure channel, the cloud channel, the data analytics channel, and others, our Information Security team writes about the innovative technology vendors and service providers in this sector, as well as industry trends and potential future developments.

Our focus for this role is an individual who can add to our growing bench of analyst expertise in Information Security by writing research reports, speaking at customer and public events, delivering webinars, strategy days and custom consulting projects, and helping build depth in Information Security verticals such as infrastructure security, identity and access management, and data security, among others.

Person Profile

We are looking to recruit a Senior Analyst with a good mix of written and interpersonal skills. Top priority is the ability to write clearly and succinctly, but also important is the ability to present with confidence to a group of industry peers. As a Senior Analyst, you will be expected to work independently within a geographically dispersed, global team, focusing on specific areas of Information Security research including technology innovation, market evolution, changes to the Information Security threat landscape, and more. Daily activity will involve briefings, client inquiries, report production, and advisory work. As an expert in your field, you will also be asked to attend industry events and provide media commentary in order to build influence for 451 Research in this area.

Required Experience

It is likely that the successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience, or evidence of a combination of experience and aptitude suitable to function as a Senior Analyst, as demonstrated through the application process. Relevant experience would have been gained in one or more of the following roles:

  • Market intelligence or competitive intelligence role with a technology vendor supplying the IT products or services sector
  • Strategy, marketing, sales, sales engineering or business development role with a service provider or technology vendor in the Information Security market
  • Senior level practitioner experience in the subject area, with exposure to enterprise-level projects and/or clients.
  • Technology journalist that has demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively, to the expectations of the role, with an audience of experienced senior technology product and services vendor decision-makers and enterprise security practitioners.
  • Information security, vertical market or associated technology area research role with a commercial industry analyst firm, or similarly qualifying experience as a financial analyst sufficient to demonstrate proficiency as a “buy-side” technology analyst.

In addition, the preferred candidate for current opportunities will have industry knowledge of one or more topics in the following categories:

For a Senior Information Security Analyst covering security analytics and security operations technologies:

  • Enterprise security operations, and the technologies used in that function, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Security Automation and Orchestration (SAO).
  • Analytics, with knowledge of application to security use cases.
  • Threat intelligence.

For a Senior Information Security Analyst covering data security:

  • Encryption technologies and vendors primarily for data at-rest, in storage, or under management by a service provider. Related knowledge of encryption for data in-motion and in-use is helpful, but not required.
  • Digital certificate and encryption key management technologies and vendors.
  • Application of data security technologies and practices to current use cases.

For all current Senior Information Security Analyst opportunities:

  • Cloud computing techniques and practices.
  • Networking and computer technology.

Required Skills

The role requires well-developed communication skills, in particular:

  • The ability to write detailed, structured reports in both short- and long-form
  • Good verbal articulation with the ability to describe complex ideas in a straightforward way
  • The ability to present to audiences of senior IT professionals, from small- to medium-sized gatherings to larger venues.
  • Awareness of media influence and how to talk effectively with the IT press

  • Be a self-starter, with aptitude for growing and developing a business built on the Analyst’s efforts
