Biography

Ken Rehbehn was a Principal Analyst within 451 Research's Networking Channel. As a wireless infrastructure analyst, Ken tracked radio access network (RAN) technology solutions operators deploy to deliver value to consumers, enterprises and government. With more than 30 years of experience in the field, he provided insight into mobile RAN trends including 5G, LTE, HSPA and operator Wi-Fi. His coverage area also addressed emerging network low power, wide area (LPWA) network technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT). Technology elements covered included base stations, small cells, base station antennas, distributed antenna systems, self-optimizing networks (SON), RAN service assurance and RAN planning software. In addition, with more than 40 years of experience in the fire and rescue service, Ken is an expert in public safety mobile broadband communications requirements and solutions.

Ken joined 451 Research with The 451 Group's acquisition of research firm Yankee Group in 2013. Before joining Yankee Group, he served as a strategic marketing director for Alcatel-Lucent and as a wireless infrastructure analyst at Current Analysis. Prior to joining Current Analysis, Ken served as director of product management at Megisto Systems, Inc., a startup equipment vendor producing next-generation data gateway solutions for GSM and UMTS networks. At Megisto, he led the product management staff to define the product and provide support for the sales staff in the field. Before that, Ken worked at Visual Networks as an ATM product line manager as well as a member of the CTO's staff. In addition to Visual Networks, his professional career has included software development and architectural design for X.25 packet switching, frame relay, and network management technologies while at GTE Telenet, Sprint and Netrix.

Ken has served as the editor of several Frame Relay Forum Implementation Agreements and IETF standards track RFCs, and he holds a patent for Frame Relay and ATM service management mechanisms. Beyond his work tracking an evolving mobile infrastructure market, Ken serves as a volunteer fire fighter in Montgomery County, Maryland. He publishes in leading industry publications, serves as a judge for leading technology award programs (Mobile World Congress Global Mobile Awards, Small Cell Forum Awards, 5G World Summit) and frequently speaks at industry conferences as well as vendor and operator briefings. In addition to publishing opinions on trends and the competitive positions of vendors supplying solutions, Ken provides consulting and training to operators, vendors and enterprises.

He holds a BA from the University of Maryland.
