Biography
Laura DiDio is a highly visible technology industry analyst and consultant, a professional writer and a veteran investigative reporter with 25+ years experience in the high technology industry.
Ms. DiDio’s area of focus was the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) arena, which she had covered for three years prior. Before joining The 451 Group, she most recently served as Director of IoT Systems Research and Consulting at Strategy Analytics in Boston. In that capacity, she conducted surveys on IoT deployment trends and timetables, authored reports on the crucial business and technology issues involving IoT, and participated in client consulting engagements. Ms. DiDio has extensive expertise in constructing and fielding independent and custom surveys on a wide range of technology and business topics. She also conducts competitive analysis, market intelligence, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) and battle scorecards across a wide range of vertical and horizontal markets.
Prior to that, she was Principal Analyst at Information Technology Intelligence Consulting (ITIC), a company she founded in 2002. She also spent over six years as a Research Fellow at the Yankee Group, and four years as a Director and Research Fellow at Giga Information Group.
During her 18 years as an analyst, Ms. DiDio has covered a wide range of technologies, including: security, edge computing, cloud computing, virtualization, bring your own device (BYOD), remote access, mobility, hardware and application software. She also monitors the business issues that impact corporations, particularly with respect to outsourcing, supply chain management, licensing and contract negotiations, risk mitigation, intellectual property (IP), copyright and patent infringement, total cost of ownership (TCO), return on investment (ROI), and application and hardware reliability.
For the past 18 years, Ms. DiDio has consulted extensively with vendors and corporate enterprises in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Ms. DiDio is also an experienced investigative reporter and writer in both the mainstream news media and the high-tech industry. She has held various reporting and editing positions at a number of computer-networking industry trade publications including: Computerworld, Network World, Communications Week, LAN Times and Digital Review. During her four-year tenure at Computerworld, she launched and authored the highly successful Ms. MIS column, a bimonthly column devoted to exploring issues faced by women and minorities in the high-tech industry, including gender bias, ageism and salary disparities. She also writes an independent column/blog on IoT-related issues for TechTarget.
Ms. DiDio has worked as an investigative on-air reporter, producer and writer for various broadcasting and print outlets, including CNN and Channel 5 News in New York, and Channel 11 in Minneapolis. Her investigative reports have appeared in The Village Voice and The Minneapolis Star and Tribune. Ms. DiDio has worked as an on-camera reporter and producer on independent documentaries.
She is a frequent speaker at industry trade shows and user conferences, and is widely quoted in the general, business and trade press. Ms. DiDio also hosts webinars and podcasts as a columnist and blogger for a wide range of media outlets.
