Research Associate I - (Boston Based)

Title:              Research Associate I (Analyst in Training)
Location:      Boston, MA    

451 Research, a technology-industry analyst firm, seeks self-motivated individuals with strong writing and interpersonal skills to join its Associates program.  This program is designed to develop strong candidates into Technology Industry Analysts within 3-5 years. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who wishes to build a career in the technology sector while working in a rapidly growing entrepreneurial company. 451 Research provides a strong benefits plan and offers a stimulating, fast-paced work environment.

The single most important requirement for this position is curiosity about the industry and the ability to look beyond what is happening to understand why it is happening, and how it affects specific players in the market. Beyond that, the candidate must have excellent Web research skills as well as problem-solving skills. The applicant must be highly organized and self-directed. The ideal candidate would have some understanding about the enterprise information technology marketplace; however, this is not a requirement.

451 Research prides itself on the quality of the writing that goes into its research reports. As such, not only does the analysis need to be objective, but we expect clarity, logic, brevity and craftsmanship. Two writing tests will be part of the selection process.

The associate will be responsible for meeting deadlines for projects, most of which will involve secondary research. Projects will be assigned from across the sectors that 451 Research covers. The following is an illustrative list of responsibilities:
  • Building the competitor list for research reports
  • Researching markets we cover and proposed new markets considered for coverage
  • Researching companies with whom we are about to have briefings
  • Note-taking for vendor briefing calls
  • Generating lists of companies in particular segments
  • Completing comparison tables
  • Drafting brief company descriptions based on a defined template
  • Scheduling analyst interviews
  • Setting up analyst meetings
  • Authoring specific sections of reports and actively participating in vendor briefings, as the associate develops their skills
All of these activities will be done under the supervision of a Senior Analyst or more senior member of the research team. In addition, all Associates will be assigned Analyst Mentors and will report centrally to a local manager in the Boston office.

Associates will be required to work at 451 Research's Boston office. Telecommuting will not be an option for Associates.

Account Executive - Mid-Market IT Sector (Boston/NYC Based)

Title:             Account Executive - Core Accounts (Mid-Market IT Sector)
Location:     Boston/NYC

Overview:
451 Research, an independent IT analyst company focused on the business of enterprise IT innovation, is seeking an Account Executive. This position will involve prospecting and closing new clients as well as some retention of existing clients.

The position could be based in New York or Boston offices and offers a competitive total compensation package and room for growth within the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with an excellent academic track record, strong communication and relationship management skills and three or more years of experience interacting with clients. Knowledge of the technology industry or syndicated research is a preferred, but not an absolute requirement.

Prior experience in Technology Staffing Agencies, Market Research, and Technology Research/Solutions is a plus.

Responsibilities:
  • Generate new sales opportunities through systematic prospecting, outbound calls and trial management.
  • Drives sales by focusing on serving, retaining, and growing our core clients and by developing the strategic selling skills of the team.

This position will involve prospecting and closing new business. The position is based in our San Francisco offices and offers a competitive total compensation package and room for growth within the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with an excellent academic track record, strong communication and relationship management skills and five or more years of sales experience in Market Research/IT Research. Knowledge of the Enterprise Market technology industry or syndicated research services is preferred, and prior experience servicing or supporting APAC region is highly desireable.

This is an individual contributor role.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will create new graphics & digital content, create & manage email campaigns and coordinate with our partners.

These individuals have a broad range of expertise – including datacenter technologies, digital infrastructure, cloud computing, networking, storage and other technology areas. We are hiring a Marketing Database Administrator to manage processes across several marketing technology systems, supporting the membership team’s overall operations. You will work to create scalable processes that ensure best practices in membership acquisition, engagement, retention, and database management and analysis.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage technical aspects of key marketing systems (marketing automation, CRM, data services, and processes across those systems).
  • Create and maintain metrics reports on marketing and engagement that detail their effectiveness and business impact.
  • Play a key role in membership recruitment and retention programs, including targeting and managing of lists, broadcasting emails, campaign tracking, response rates, etc.
  • Assist with membership management – including accreditation, profile verification, database maintenance/updates/quality control, analytics, customer service, webinars, etc.

Requirements:
  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience.

Principal Consultant (Boston Based)

Title:                 Principal Consultant 
Location:         Boston

Position Summary:
451 Research Advisory delivers bespoke market and industry research and prescriptive guidance to information technology vendors, service providers, investors, and enterprises.  

The Principal Consultant is primarily responsible for delivering and managing 451 Research Advisory projects, and supporting business development and sales.

Working with other consultants and 451 Research Analysts, the Principal Consultant analyzes client requirements, assembles existing qualitative research and data, designs and conducts new primary research, compiles and analyzes results, and develops and presents customized deliverables including reports and presentations to our clients.  

The Principal Consultant also manages 451 Research Advisory projects.  As project manager, the Principal Consultant is responsible for developing and maintaining project schedule, resource allocation, and internal and external project communication.

The Principal Consultant also supports the business development and sales of 451 Research Advisory projects.  

Responsibilities:

1.    Delivery
a.    Assemble existing qualitative research and data
b.    Design and conduct primary research
c.    Compile and analyze research results
d.    Develop and present customized deliverables including reports, presentations, infographics, webinars, videos, etc.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience managing projects (typically 3-6 months, involving 3-6 people)
  • Understanding of basic market research functions (market intelligence, competitive intelligence)
  • Experience designing and executing primary market research (surveys and interviews)
  • Experience analyzing market research data
  • Experience reading, analyzing, and writing industry research
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
