Research Associate I - (Boston Based)

Title:             Research Associate I (Analyst in Training)

451 Research, a technology-industry analyst firm, seeks self-motivated individuals with strong writing and interpersonal skills to join its Associates program.  This program is designed to develop strong candidates into Technology Industry Analysts within 3-5 years. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual who wishes to build a career in the technology sector while working in a rapidly growing entrepreneurial company. 451 Research provides a strong benefits plan and offers a stimulating, fast-paced work environment.

The single most important requirement for this position is curiosity about the industry and the ability to look beyond what is happening to understand why it is happening, and how it affects specific players in the market. Beyond that, the candidate must have excellent Web research skills as well as problem-solving skills. The applicant must be highly organized and self-directed. The ideal candidate would have some understanding about the enterprise information technology marketplace; however, this is not a requirement.

451 Research prides itself on the quality of the writing that goes into its research reports. As such, not only does the analysis need to be objective, but we expect clarity, logic, brevity and craftsmanship. Two writing tests will be part of the selection process.

The associate will be responsible for meeting deadlines for projects, most of which will involve secondary research. Projects will be assigned from across the sectors that 451 Research covers. The following is an illustrative list of responsibilities:
  • Building the competitor list for research reports
  • Researching markets we cover and proposed new markets considered for coverage
  • Researching companies with whom we are about to have briefings
  • Note-taking for vendor briefing calls
  • Generating lists of companies in particular segments
  • Completing comparison tables
  • Drafting brief company descriptions based on a defined template

All of these activities will be done under the supervision of a Senior Analyst or more senior member of the research team. In addition, all Associates will be assigned Analyst Mentors and will report centrally to a local manager in the Boston office.
Associates will be required to work at 451 Research's Boston office. Telecommuting will not be an option for Associates.

HR Generalist (Boston Based)

Title:                Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary:
HR Generalist works closely with the VP of HR in supporting our Boston office by implementing human resources programs and solving performance problems. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: training and development, employee relations, recruiting and onboarding, coaching managers, handling workers compensation claims, performance management, policy implementation, affirmative action and employment law compliance.


Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all company personnel.

Managing Director, Member Acquisition & Engagement (Boston Based)

The Managing Director, Member Acquisition & Engagement is responsible for planning, innovating and executing programs to drive our fast growing 451 Alliance communities.  These communities, or panels, are created and grown principally as a source of survey-based market research. This is a highly visible and strategic role. The membership network is already critical to the ongoing success of numerous 451 Research services, including the Voice of the Enterprise research products. Over time, expanding both the size of 451’s communities and diversifying the ways we engage with them is a strategic driver for the company as a whole.

We seek a highly qualified individual who can take an analytically-driven approach to expanding our membership of 50,000+ IT professionals and ensure ongoing engagement activities.

In this position you will oversee the day to day operations of our membership team and serve as a thought leader in developing programs to expand & diversify our membership, optimize our content-based incentives program and build our membership retention strategies.

There are five key elements to our Alliance programs and success criteria for this role include:
  • Member Recruitment & Accreditation: Develop and implement integrated recruitment campaigns based on a mix of traditional list recruiting efforts as well as digital, including social media, PPC, content marketing and influencer relations.
  • Member Retention & Engagement: Develop and implement member retention programs, segmenting our 451 Alliance members and catering to their specific interests leading to high levels of engagement; Respond to all member requests

Marketing Director – Events (New York Based)

Position Description Summary:
The Marketing Director - Events will be responsible for the development and execution of marketing strategies across the 451 Group’s global event portfolio.

As Marketing Director, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and analyzing marketing strategies which will drive event attendance and sponsorship lead generation.

This is a business critical role with high profile and visibility and would suit someone looking to excel their career in an environment that genuinely offers freedom to think, act and deliver.

We are looking for high achievers who can demonstrate an impressive track record of success, over-achievement and ambition, with significant B2B or B2B/B2C marketing experience.   

You will have experience using the full marketing mix, with a focus on digital marketing, email campaigns, SEO principles and social media marketing. Demonstrable conference marketing experience with knowledge of the IT sector, particularly targeting a senior executive level is preferable.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Creating, implementing and executing marketing strategies to drive attendee acquisition across a portfolio of conferences and events.
  • Exceeding delegates’ revenue goals and target volumes across events.
  • Marketing Campaign expertise in;
    • Creating delegate personas to ensure the right target audience demographics are represented at each event, understanding the different target roles, responsibilities and interests and using profiling to properly align marketing messaging.

Payroll Specialist (New York Based)

Title:             Payroll Specialist

The 451 Group an independent technology industry analyst and datacenter certification provider is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join our accounting department in the New York Office.

The selected candidate will be responsible for processing all aspects of a semi-monthly, US multi-state payroll using Paylocity, run international payrolls through 3rd party providers and assisting with general accounting activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Process U.S. semi-monthly, multi-state payroll using Paylocity online systems.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and yearly payroll reports using the Paylocity systems.
  • Ensure all payroll accounting entries are completed accurately and timely to the G/L.
  • Ensure all federal, state and local taxes as well as FICA, 401(k) and benefit contributions are all properly deducted from employees’ compensation as well as filed with the correct federal, state, and local institution.
  • Audit payroll for accuracy and reconcile to the G/L and bank accounts.
  • Process employee status changes and maintain employee vacation and sick time.
  • Field and respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure that payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with external and internal policies.

Research Manager, Voice of the Enterprise: IoT (U.S Based)

451 Research seeks an IT research professional who can lead research coverage, product execution, business development and ultimately provide industry thought leadership for our Voice of the Enterprise: Internet of Things service. You will work alongside our dedicated team of data analysts, as well as those responsible for building out our proprietary panel of enterprise buyers, and you will be responsible for ensuring the timely production of all client deliverables, including demand-side research. Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Voice of the Enterprise VP and other stakeholders across 451 to craft and execute a compelling research agenda that resonates with the information needs of leading participants in the IoT market.

Senior Analyst, Business Applications (Open to Location)

We are looking for a star performer to become a leading member of our analyst team. This senior member of the analyst team will provide insight and commentary into the technology and economic themes that are driving the evolution of the sector. This analysis will be delivered principally via published reports in a variety of lengths and formats. Authoring research is a key responsibility for this role. Additionally, the senior analyst will engage directly with our customers in an advisory capacity; and share their thought leadership at 451 and industry conferences.
In the business applications channel, we are looking for the analyst to own our marketing technologies coverage, including account-based marketing, lead generation and management, campaign management, digital marketing and content marketing. Depending on interests and capabilities, it could also extend into sales-enablement and sales automation. Analysts in our channel cover all deployment models including both premises-based and SaaS, as well as mobile offerings from startups through to the largest players in the industry -but always with a focus on disruptive technology.

We are a distributed team and are happy to hire remotely for this position, or you are also welcome to work from one of our US locations, including NYC, Boston or San Francisco.

Tasks:
 
•    Write research reports in both short and long form on a regular basis.

Senior General Ledger Accountant (New York Based)

The 451 Group, an independent technology industry analyst and datacenter certification provider, is seeking a Senior General Ledger Accountant to join our accounting department in our New York Office. We are seeking a well-organized, detail oriented and hardworking individual to fill this position. The selected candidate will be responsible for full cycle accounting for both U.S. and International entities. The position will include review for timely and accurate data recorded in the general ledger, reconciliations of appropriate GL accounts, monitoring systems to insure compliance with GAAP, and assisting with ad-hoc accounting activities.


Responsibilities:
•Prepare and review monthly journal entries to the General Ledger.
•Maintain, reconcile and confirm intercompany accounts for all U.S. and International entities.
•Maintain accrual schedules and monthly transactions.
•Coordinate transactions with foreign operations, issue necessary support documents for US expenses/income, and oversee/perform currency translation.
•Prepare month-end Balance Sheet Schedules for the reconciliation book with required supporting documentation.
•Assist management in investigating, documenting and improving internal controls and in maintaining the Company’s manual of accounting policies and procedures.

Senior Project Cost Accountant (New York Based)

Position Overview:

The Senior Project Cost Accountant provides a sound analysis of financial data, Key Performance Indicators for the company’s project and overall performance. This includes supporting operations staff in reviewing, analysing and reporting on our syndicated research, advisory services, and events profitability, direct and indirect labor, subcontractor costs, and other overhead costs incurred in the operating segments.
You will assist your internal clients, Executives and Project Managers (PM), to understand and interpret this data, and help determine subsequent actions. The 451 Group takes a collaborative approach to project management and you must be able to communicate effectively with project teams as well as company’s Executive Team.
The ideal candidate must be organized and able to meet deadlines, as well as have the ability to critically analyze financial data and interpret it for project teams without a financial background. You will direct the day to day companywide cost accounting functions to provide timely and accurate information on costs, pricing, reporting, and resource allocation.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
•    Manage all aspects of cost accounting including the preparation, review and analysis of research product and professional services, standard costing, overhead allocation and variance analysis.
•    Produce job cost reports on a bi-weekly basis and review with Assistant Controller.
•    Review and analyze financial condition of projects on regular basis and advise Assistant Controller of next steps.
•    Planning, analyzing, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity for research products and professional services, and to determine effects on costs.
•    Analyze changes in research product and/or professional services provided and assist in identifying the need for additional services through analysis of reports.
•    Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of research products or professional services projects.
•    Evaluates special projects and feasibility studies (new research products, customers, methods or services) to determine impact on costs and revenues.
•    Compiles, monitors, and analyzes cost changes and related reports (quarterly pricing, pricing schedules, cost savings projects) in research products, professional services, analyst involvement, overhead, production methods, and wages to facilitate pricing decisions.
•    Prepare the project profitability and firm operating statistics and reviews with Assistant Controller quarterly.
•    Assist with month-end closing and reporting and reconcile monthly revenue to forecast and discuss variances with Assistant Controller.
•    Update revenue forecasts with input from Executives and review with Assistant Controller.
•    Assist and work with Assistant Controller, PM and project teams in budgeting for new/potential projects and solving various project financial questions.
•    Evaluate time sheets for general accuracy and adherence to project budgets.
•    Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

Desired Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
•    Minimum of 5 solid years of Cost Accounting experience in a Services Environment.
•    Strong cost systems background with excellent analytical skills and sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
•    Experience working with project managers and analysts on development and analysis of cost standards.
•    Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, PowerPoint required with advanced Excel skills.
•    Experience working with upper management.
•    Experience working with International entities is a plus.
•    Excellent time and project management skills.
•    Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
•    Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
