TheInfoPro Insight: Automated Tiering Helping Address Tight 2012 Storage Budgets5 Jul, 2012 ~
Use of automated tiering has dramatically increased since the last study, and the technology is on its way to predominance. Storage professionals expect that this technology can help deliver greater capacities with the same performance profiles for equal or lower cost. Performance is a secondary benefit mainly associated with solid-state disk implementations. Archive and storage virtualization vendors are smartly making a play to define their products as automated tiering but are unlikely to significantly have an impact on the array vendors.
