Microsoft pays a princely premium for Skype

In its largest-ever deal, Microsoft has announced that it is buying VoIP provider Skype for $8.5bn in cash. This is the third time Skype has changed hands since 2005 and will likely be the last time it finds a new parent, since Microsoft's offer is nearly twice as rich as the combined price Skype received in its previous two trade sales.
