The deal should help the buyer offer enhanced security capabilities in its cloud communications platform. Secure collaboration has become top of mind for IT decision-makers given the shift to remote work amid COVID-19, as well as the security backlash experienced in the early days of the pandemic by Zoom and WhatsApp.
The company is extending its 'un-carrier' approach to the business segment with WFX Solutions, a set of work-from-anywhere offerings comprising business smartphone and tablet plans, home internet service, and mobile collaboration tools delivered in partnership with UCaaS vendor Dialpad.
Unlike the company's previous transactions that were largely focused on broadening its product portfolio capabilities, Twilio's acquisition of ValueFirst is likely driven by the intent to expand its global geographic coverage. Although their respective portfolios overlap, the target comes with a strong presence in India and Indonesia.
The target brings complementary capabilities for delivering tailor-made customer experiences through chat services and bots, and should support the buyer's stated goal of increasing its total addressable market by pursuing a 'digital first' segment.
