Biography

Andy Lawrence is the Vice President of Research for Datacenters and Critical Infrastructure at 451 Research and the Executive Director of Uptime Research. He also leads the 451 Foresight project, which looks at the potential impact of emerging technologies across the IT industry over the next decade. Andy specializes in datacenter efficiency, market evolution and automation, both from a technical and economic point of view. He has an interest in the convergence of IT and energy technologies, both in the datacenter and beyond. Andy works closely with the Uptime Institute, part of The 451 Group, reviewing innovations and trends for members. Andy has given keynote presentations at events in the US, Europe and Asia. Andy is the author of reports covering datacenter management; power/energy management; 5G mobile networks; Disruptive Datacenter technologies; and datacenter and application resiliency. He has represented 451 Research at the Green Grid, and contributed to European Union projects on cloud services and renewable energy. He contributed to an international program to develop a carbon footprinting method for IT. Before joining 451 Research, Andy was the co-founder of Infoconomy, a publishing and research company focusing on enterprise IT; and was a technology and business journalist writing for business and national media. He launched several IT business magazines and information services in the UK and US. Andy has a degree in Philosophy from the University of Manchester, with an interest in Philosophy of Science and phenomenology.
