Dave Simpson led the company's research activities around data protection, in particular those driven by emerging technologies and business models, such as virtualization and cloud. Accordingly, Dave served as the lead analyst for technologies including backup and recovery, data deduplication, disaster recovery, replication and high-availability.
Prior to joining 451 Research, Dave was the Editor-in-Chief of InfoStor.com, a website focused 100% on the data storage market and targeting IT end users, storage channel professionals, vendors and investors. Dave launched InfoStor in 1997.
Prior to launching InfoStor, Dave held senior editor positions at a number of publications, including Datamation, Client/Server Today, Digital News & Review, Systems Integration and Mini-Micro Systems. He has been covering the IT industry for more than 25 years, focusing on the storage sector for the last 15 years.
Barracuda Networks acquires Intronis, primarily to improve its position in the MSP space. Intronis, a hybrid cloud backup/recovery vendor with 100 employees, is not well-known as about 75% of its MSP customers white-label its services. But it has almost 2,000 MSP partners, compared with only 200 MSP partners (and 5,000 VARS) for Barracuda alone.
Following its acquisition of C2C Systems last year, Barracuda has scooped up Intronis, a hybrid cloud backup/recovery vendor with strengths in the MSP space (almost 2,000 MSPs and 36,000 business customers). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners and True Ventures, Datos IO has $15.25m in initial funding, and hopes to ship its first commercial products in early 2016. Early evaluators include eBay and Barracuda.
